Curtis Packaging’s structural engineers have over 70 years of creative package design experience, and many of our designers have patents for their own innovative concepts. Our team uses the latest Artios Design software with 3D-output capabilities. This software allows for the most accurate rendering of digital mockups, allowing our customers to see what the carton will look like at the point of purchase. Blanks for testing and review are created on our two Data Tech plotters within 24 – 48 hours. We specialize in the structural design of:
- Folding cartons
- Setup boxes
- Gift Sets
Curtis Packaging maintains a fully-digital workflow, allowing us to prepare files for extremely complex design projects. Using the latest software on our MacPro workstations, our designers and production staff can take your back-of-an-envelope idea, and create a functional, eye-catching masterpiece for your brand. Our Epson contract proofer allows us to create life-like comps for customer review. Our pre-press design steps include:
- Nexus PowerStepper production layouts
- Proof layouts using Epson wide format printer
- Generate CIP 3 data for ink requirements on press
- Jobs screened by Nexus using Esko’s new concentric dot
- Press assigned a generated G7 compliant Cal file
- Fuji CTP plate imaging
Exceptional printing is a Curtis cornerstone. In 2018, we installed an incredible 29” x 41”, 15-station Koenig & Bauer (formerly KBA) UV Press. This is the only press in the world with our unique configuration allowing us to apply up to 11 colors and 4 separate Coatings all in one pass!
The creative designs are boundless, enabling your brand to print vibrant graphics along with matte, UV gloss, soft touch and pearl coatings in one shot! Imagine 4 unique coatings without having to go through the press a second or third time. It’s now a reality at Curtis.

Our new Koenig & Bauer 106 press beautifully compliments our 7 and 8-color all UV KBA 130 presses. Our suite of printing presses with multiple coaters allow us the ultimate in flexibility to run your small job on a 20” X 24” sheet and your large volume/large carton jobs on our 38” x 51” presses.
This flexibility is the reason why Curtis does not implore minimum order quantities. We competitively run as little as 500 sheets to over 5,000,000 sheets!
Our Large Format KBA presses are 38 x 51 inches, allowing a 73% larger sheet size than traditional 28 x 40-inch printing presses. Our printers have dual 7-color UV presses and one 8-color UV press. Each printer includes:
- Interstation UV-curing, for color clarity
- Extended delivery coating capabilities, for superior gloss
- Closed-loop densitometry, for consistent color
The newest 10-Station 8-Color Press with two coating units is the first of its kind in North America. It allows us to apply our proprietary CurtCHROME®, CurtCOAT®, and CurtCRYSTAL®.
Ink fountains are set directly from the same prepress data used to create plates for each project. Our KBAs communicate directly with our CIP3 pre-press system, via CTPLink, drastically decreasing our make-ready time.
Color Design Ink Lab
We use 100% UV (VOC-free) inks eligible for the SoySeal. Curtis maintains an ink lab on-site for accurate color matching. We blend 99% of our inks and coatings within our own four walls.
We can customize:
- Soft touch coatings
- High build
- Micro reticulation
We only use the latest die cutting equipment at Curtis. We have 4 Bobst die cutters and blankers, ranging from 105 – 142 and 1 Heidelberg Dymatrix 142. The combination of these die-cutters ensures the most precise cuts and the fastest turnaround times.
Cutting Die Production
We proudly have been making cutting dies for over 100 years. Curtis Packaging uses the Gerber Profile Die Tool Production system to mill boards for die-cutting, stripping and blanking. It also enables us to counter plates to every customer specification. The Easy Bender Turbo allows our team to custom bend knives and rule, saving both time and money in cutting die production.
Hot Stamping & Embossing
Curtis Packaging utilizes two large format stampers giving us the flexibility to stamp sheets as small as 20” x 24” for short runs, to a maximum of 38” x 51” for large volumes or large cartons. Our Bobst and SBL Stamper allow for efficient application of foil elements to a variety of substrates. The hot stampers can also add:
- Embossing and debossing
- Multilevel embossing
- Registered embossing
- Blind embossing
- Combination stamping
Our Sterling Toggle die coordinator allows for efficient lock-up of dies off-press, saving and maximizing throughput allowing a faster speed to market.
Quality Control Laboratory
Our quality control laboratory team uses state-of-the-art technology to measure the individual characteristics of each carton.
Curtis Packaging tests and measures:
- Color using Densitometry and Spherical Spectrophotometry
- Score and bend forces
- Slip and friction
- Bar code scanning
- Rub resistance, using the Sutherland Rub Test
The data we collect in our laboratory is analyzed using Statistical Quality Control.
