Curtis Packaging accelerates its responsiveness
with a die cutting first from Heidelberg USA

Sandy Hook, CT - August 31, 2007 - Curtis Packaging has made its production workflow more efficient and more responsive by inaugurating a new Heidelberg Dymatrix 142 CSB die cutter this summer. The 40” X 55” system is the first to be installed by Heidelberg USA and the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.

“We invested in this advanced finishing technology in order to bring more benefits to our customers,” says Donald R. Droppo Jr., Senior Vice President of Marketing at Curtis Packaging. “This system is fast, processing 8,000 sheets per hour. It produces high quality cuts with a force of 674 tons. And it delivers a high degree of automation so we can go from job to job more quickly. All are key considerations for our clients.”

In his search for a more customer-friendly die cutter, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing John Giusto flew to Heidelberg’s plant in Mönchengladbach, Germany, to put the system through its paces in a personal demonstration. “I’ve bought a lot of die cutters over the years,” he says. “But when I saw the Dymatrix in action, it wasn’t just another concept. This was a serious contender. The Dymatrix did everything I asked it to do – and then some.”

Giusto has not been disappointed with the die cutter’s on the job performance. “So far, it has met or exceeded all our expectations,” he remarks. He cites as an example the Dymatrix’s exclusive moving upper platen that enables it to maintain level sheet travel from feeder to delivery, resulting in a cleaner die cut and a more satisfied customer.

Curtis’ Dymatrix began working two 10-hour shifts virtually right out of the box, and it continues to impress Curtis clients with its capabilities. “We die cut and do a lot of complicated embossing here at Curtis,” Giusto says. “While we haven’t used the Dymatrix to emboss yet, I have to believe, based on what I’ve seen already, that the Dymatrix will enable us to do it even better.”
